Introducing the Center for Next Generation of Materials Design
Materials science is entering a new era—the era of Materials Design—where new materials are developed purposefully to have a specific functionality, rather than discovered empirically and then matched later to functionality and applications. As part of the Center for Next Generation of Materials Design (CNGMD), an Energy Frontier Research Center of the U.S. Department of Energy, researchers across the country are integrating high-throughput computation and theory of materials in conjunction with detailed, high-throughput experimental synthesis and characterization to greatly accelerate the discovery of useful functional energy materials. This video highlights the Center's major emphases through brief interviews with researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource.
